Nooblet  Grin I think thats a great username!

How to set a static route on a cisco router...

1. You need to login to your cisco router with a console/vty password to start.
2. You need to type "enable" then type the enable password, the your prompt will look something like "noobs-router#".
3. Type "config t" to place the router in global config mode "noobs-router(config)#".
4. Now you're ready to add the route.  Type "ip route <network> <netmask> <next hop>" where <network> is an IP network like 192.168.1.0 for example, <netmask> 255.255.255.0 tells how many bits of the address are allocated to the network and how many are allocated to hosts and finally <next hop> is the router that this should get handed off to so the traffic can continue to its destination.

did not intend to offend  Wink  Ok nooblet, in the interrest of not trying to reinvent the wheel just to sound really smart, I'm going to refere you to the wikipedia blurb on OSI as I think it is adequate.  If you have questions after this read, let me know.

Nooblet - have you're mom or dad email me at barney@routermonkey.org & maybe I'll fix you up with an old Cisco 2501 router.  Sounds like you're interested in networking & thats what we do here - help people who are interested in Routing & Switching to learn.

Keep in mind that I do not usually give away routers... I would just like to help you take the next step with your networking asperations!
